Belonging is Jill Fordyce’s first novel. And based on how much I liked her protagonist, Jenny, it better not be her last! The story spans 4 decades. But Jill easily transitions from one period to the next. The amount of time she spends at each phase of Jenny’s life makes perfect sense.
The story starts with 13-year old Jenny contracting a disease that keeps her bedridden for several months. She gets through it with the help of her cousin, Heather, her best friend, Henry, and her great-uncle, Gino. Notice I didn’t mention her mother or father! You will need to read the book to find out why that is the case.
And then along comes Billy, who is Jenny’s boyfriend throughout high school. Will they still be boyfriend and girlfriend as they head to separate colleges? The answer is…read Belonging and find out. In fact, you will want to read the book to find out all of these things. What are you waiting for?
